When it's your B-day you should spend some quality time with good people and for me quality time is no doubt time spent on the bike. Being that my birthday fell on a weekend I figured I may as well celebrate all weekend long.
The original plan was to head to Lake Redman on Saturday with Mrs. Outlaw and anyone else we could drum up but with temperatures rising and trails thawing to mud we had to pull that plan off the table for fear of wrecking that beautiful PA singletrack. With a special two day fire arms season happening in the Shed that left us with Gambrill as our fall back spot. Ricky d and JoJo joined us for a ride that started chilly but warmed up nicely. We mixed up the route from the way the girls normally do it and I seemed to get the overall thumbs down vote from them on this direction. All still had fun, they just prefer to go down some of the hills we climbed and vice versa.
Sunday was spent in Michaux up in PA with Andy, Larry and Darius for a great ride full of climbs and rocks. Had more punctures in the group than usually but that was the only downside. Cleaned a few things on the fixed gear that I probably should not have given the wetness factor, but hey, it was my birthday, I guess the MTB gods decided to float me a gift. Post ride beers, steak dinner and a few more beers with my lady and I got to call the weekend a winner despite having a few more gray hairs than I did this time last year.
Who needs reality TV when you've got SSWC? It has conspiracy theories and controversy, rumors of technical snafus and all the drama you could possibly want. Just sit back and enjoy the show. And no, I did not make it in, 20 seconds after registration opened appears to have been too late. Or to quote my rejection letter, I "didn't make the time cut". Better buy me a new watch.
