Paying the Bills  //   Thursday - January 12, 2006

We interrupt the regularly scheduled programming for this commercial break:

Need a calendar for cheap? Well, you are in luck since one has just been added to the SSO store. It's simple like a single speed and features a shot that was included at the BIKE art exhibit mentioned below. Hang it above your desk so you can dream of your next MTB adventure and count the days until you taste sweet singletrack. Get it here.

Flash Back  //   Wednesday - January 11, 2006

A while back, as some of you may recall, there was an art show put on locally that was titled BIKE: An Exhibition. The picture above was taken by Jeff Yambor who had attended the show and was digging the bike pile. Even though I've been meaning to post it, it's sat in my inbox for much longer than I wanted. If you look close, on the left, inside of the gallery, you can see the life-size crocheted bike. Below you'll see a scan of a little blurb they put in a local business newspaper about the bike ride we did to the show. A little odd considering the publication but I thought some may be interested. Sorry for the quality of the scan, that's how things go sometimes.

Had a great a much needed mountain bike ride Sunday at the Frederick Watershed. Lots of climbing, lots of rocks and a big group. Ten of us total, it's been a while since I've ridden with that many people at once, turned out to be a real good time. With the way the weather has been the MTB has not seen enough dirt time and my own saddle time has dropped a bit lately, so I was expecting to be in the pain cave. But overall I was feeling strong, maybe some of this tapered off riding was a good recovery period. They say that works, but I've got no training schedule or patience for trying any organized ride/recovery period, so I've got nothing to compare it to. Regardless, it felt good to be working hard and the next day my arms were feeling those long, steep, extended climbs. More rain in the forecast today, we'll have to see what damage it does...

Swedish Meatballs  //   Monday - January 9, 2006

In case you haven't heard yet, the 2006 Single Speed World Championships will be in Sweden this year. Details on the decision process are over on the Surly Blog. Now we just need a date so we can all start planning. Vikings and Abba fans rejoice!
