The fixed Cross-check has been doing some off-road duty in a quest for dirt when the things thaw here and they are to muddy for the normal trails. Fireroads are OK since they are, well, roads and usually a mix of rock and gravel. The Avocet Cross tires (really touring tires) actually permform well in these conditions. Except they have no side knobs to dig in when cornering, making steep downhills suicide missions. So last night I mounted up a pair of 44c WTB Mutanoraptors. The bike looks bad ass now and should be able to handle just about anything that comes my way. Testing commences this weekend.
