Last chance to comment on the ICC. You know, that transportation project where they will be building new commuter highways, promised cycling routes that would help reduce the congestion and pollution and then backed out of those promises.
Snow days //
Tuesday - February 14, 2006
Quick updates: Thanks to the Outlaw crew and a couple of brother-in-laws we got all of our stuff moved up to Fredrock on Satuday. The original plan was to spread it out over Saturday and Sunday, but Mother Nature either does not like me or wanted me to appear like Nostrodamas. While everyone else seemed to think winter was over here in the Mid-Atlantic and we would be spared any more snow, I've been predicting things were far from over and between mid February and mid March were were going to get a good snow. Of course, I did not predict or want to see it on moving weekend, but that's what happened. By mid-week the forecast had the potential of being bad and as each day passed it got worse.
Snow was predicted to get under way a little after noon on Saturday so the plan was changed to make the attempt at loading up one big trip on Saturday. Luckily we were able to pull it off, the snow started when we were finishing loading the truck and picked up as we headed west. Unloaded in the snow and by the time we were done and heading back to B-more it was coming down heavy. When it was all over Sunday morning we got about a foot of snow. Mission accomplished, big thanks to all who helped us out. The deal gets officailly sealed on Wednesday.
What this mean is my Internet connection is down at the old place and not due back up at the new place for 2 weeks. For some reason Verizon can manage to get a phone operational immmediately but DSL is another story. Exactly what the hold up is, I don't know. In the meantime I'll have to find some alternate posting location. Bear with me, I've got unpacking to do to, so the posts may continue to be a bit thin for a little bit. Also, if you are ordering stickers, hold off until you see a post here since the old P.O.Box is being shut down and I need to establish a new one. Thanks for the patience.
In other news, the new Wednesday night ride leader Jay, the one who stepped up to take my place, went down hard on this weeks ride. A skinny tire detour onto dirt on the return trip, perhaps a beer to many, an unseen root in the dark and the end result is a broken collar bone. Hopefully he'll be healed up soon and be back on two wheels. Who's next in line for the leadership post?
As if there isn't enough development going on everywhere you turn, we bring you news of a potential VERY BAD idea. Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is in the crosshairs. Terry Bicycles (who featured one of their riders on a Ti single speed in a recent catalog) recently did a ride there in preparation for a tour they will be offering this year. Do we really need more development in an area like this? Make your voice heard.
