Trail building support  //   Thursday - April 2, 2009

Don't forget, big trail work day this weekend. Scroll down for details or click here.

The Bike Doctor Frederick, The Trail House, The Bicycle Escape, The Family Bike Shop, Germantown Cycles, Clipper City Beer and the Single Speed Outlaw Factory Team are all putting up cash and/or swag to support this big project. Support those who support us! Sign up for Sunday's big work day here.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is going to be at Mt. St. Marys college in Emmitsburg on April 25th. One of the films will be Crux, a trials biking short produced by Ryan Leech. Check out the trailer below.

For more cool trials action, check Hans Rey out on MTBR.com. Beautiful pictures.

Bring on the fun  //   Tuesday - March 31, 2009

Every bike ride should be an adventure is what I say. Saturday was no different, spring rain overnight then leaving only fog behind or so the forecast said. The "fog" turned out to be a fine steady rain that enveloped bike and rider in a wet blanket. Temps were high enough that a Dirt Rag wool jersey and Chrome knickers kept the elements mostly at bay. Fifty miles of dirt roads, stream fords and a few detours thanks to:
a) a bridge that was on the side of the road instead of over the creek and
b) a road that appeared to go through on the map but instead would have required a canoe to cross.

Road Closed

The tail end of the route took us over to Flying Dog brewery so we could meet my wife and Mic who had done their own adventure ride. Five dollars gets you a pint glass and a lot of samples of tasty beer. Finished the last 5 or so miles in the remainder of the rain and fog to finish out a good day in the saddle.

This bike looks like a hoot. Surly does up a special anniversary addition of the single speed that helped put them on the map. Big ol' 3 inch slicks for bombing urban landscapes and riding out the apocalypse Mad Max style. Can you say derby vehicle?
