ECNASSCU Stage Info  //   Wednesday - June 2, 2004

If you didn't already know what you were in for when you showed up for the ECNASSCU, the fine folks at Mt. Nittany Wheelworks gave you a glimpse of what was to come when you showed up for race registration.

Rock!  //   Tuesday - June 1, 2004

Good times in the Rothrock State Forest this weekend. The weather Saturday was a bit cool and sunny. By the time all of our crew dribbled into the camping area, then headed to town to get registered for the SS championship, it was late before we got out on a ride. Some quick map reading and we figure on a loop we can hit up before dark. After a long climb we are at the top of a mountain with a multi-trail intersection. We take what we believe to be the far right trail only to discover later that an overgrown piece of singletrack would have been the correct choice. After bombing downhill for several miles of high speed joy we pop out on a fire road we think will take us back to camp. No such luck, it dead ends in a meadow after some more descending. Some quick map checking and Kevin identifies the error of our ways. No choice but to climb back the way we came if we want to get back by dark. Ugggggh. Lots of slow cadence grunting, but we make it back without the need for lights. I will feel this on the tomorrow's hill climb's. A massive feast of sloppy joes and a night of drinking beer by the camp fire get us ready for tomorrow's race.

More later. In the meantime, a pic of the Trossenator with brand new SSer Charlie finishing stage one of Sunday's action.
