I <3 Singletrack  //   Wednesday - July 22, 2009

Gambrill State Park Singletrack Spent some solo time in Gambrill State Park and the Watershed yesterday. Good ride, dry trails, 2 mishaps. First was a mountain laurel spear to the forearm that ripped me off the bike and left a hole in my arm. Trimmed back by some do-gooder I'm sure, unable to be seen at any speed, but the fly by I was doing left no way to spy the small weapon used to remove me from my steed. What should have been a high speed brush with vegetation turned into a take-down. Number 2: finishing the ride, steady pace, know the trail well so I guess I was a little lazy and maybe daydreaming. Widow maker strung across the trail, just above eye level and out of sight if you've got your nose to the trail. Which I did. Smack! Rung my bell, crimped my neck. Ouch! Stopped a second to make sure all was cool, then finished up. Just one of those days, but despite a little pain, a great day of riding and fine trails to be doing it on. Just need to remember: stay alert!
