Momentum is happening  //   Wednesday - August 17, 2011

It was a great weekend for getting more mountain bike trails on the ground in Maryland. On Saturday ground was broken in Emmitsburg on a new stacked loop trail system that has been many years in the making. Twenty workers showed up to and put in a lot of hard work and made significant progress. The next work day is scheduled for August 27th. Stay tuned.

Sunday saw rain storms in and threaten the big Rockburn Skills Park fundraiser event which was set to have rides, food and raffles. The majority of the rides had to be canceled due to wet trails but by picnic time the skies were clear and sunny. Over 300 people showed and the kids ride was able to go off. More importantly several thousand dollars was raised for the project. Single Speed Outlaw has stepped up to become a Friends of Rockburn sponsor of the project and we also teamed up with Heavy Seas beer to donate a keg of Loose Cannon for the fundraiser. REI has just put up a $10K grant, so things are really moving but with ground breaking a little over a month a way, there is still a lot of money to raise. If you can donate to the cause, click here and drop some money in the bucket.

In the "I'm not sure what to think" news category, rock band Wilco is giving away some type of restored 1955 single speed bike to a random fan who pre-orders their next album, "The Whole Love". Are they courting the hipsters or the bike nerds? You can check photos of the bike here.
