The Rocks of the George Washington National Forest //
Wednesday - December 8, 2010
Spent the weekend riding the great trails on the north end of the George Washington National Forest in the Fort Valley area of Virginia. Home to Elizabeth Furnace and great trail such as Signal Knob, Bear Wallow, Buzzard Rock and of course the might Massanutten Trail a.k.a. The Ring. The area is only about 80 miles from Washington DC and about the same from my own little rock slice of heaven in Frederick, MD. The trails are signed and blazed and maps are available, so if you haven't been before, give it a go. Trails can be remote and you should carry what you need, but you will be rewarded well.
Massanutten Mountain North in the George Washington National Forest is located in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia near Fort Valley, VA and offers unbelievable mountain bike trails. National Geographic's map #792 covers trails in the area.
